Re: TOMLIN family of HEMEL HEMPSTEAD, UK
Yes, I am certainly aware of the two sets of Joseph & Ann Tomlin. However, according to my current records, the two Josephs were both cousins:-
The Joseph Tomlin (b.17.6.1804) who married Ann Hatton on 10.11.1828 was a son of William Tomlin & Mary Fawcett. Joseph's son Charles (bapt.16.10.1836) married Eliza Monk in 1854. His daughter Emma was baptised 24.4.1839 and died in November 1840.
The other Joseph Tomlin (b.7.6.1808) was a son of Charles Tomlin who was a younger brother of William Tomlin (father of the other Joseph). This Joseph Tomlin also married a woman named Ann. They had a daughter Emma who was born about 1832 at Watford and a son Charles born about 1833 also at Watford. I have no marriage records for Emma or Charles. In view of the birthplace of these Tomlin children it's entirely possible that Joseph & Ann married at Watford which would explain why their marriage doesn't appear in the Berkhampstead, H.Hempstead or Boxmoor parish records.
The Tomlin lines in and around Hemel Hempstead were blurred to say the very least!
I am descended from Daniel Tomlin (younger brother of the William Tomlin who was the father of Joseph) & Eliza Kilby. I guess this means that, regardless of which Joseph Tomlin you are actually descended from, our family lines are probably connected.
Regards and a Happy Christmas,
