TOMPKINS E. A., MD.,office and residence corner of Church & Neal street, Grass Valley. He was born in Tompkins county New York in 1833.
In 1850 he came to this state and lived in Placervillesix months, Maryville three months Rose Bar five months, engaged in practicing his profesion and mining. He then came to Grass Valley which has since been his home. During the war he was Assistant Surgeon of the Forth California Volunteers stationedin Oregon and Washington Territories. In 1863 he returned to Grass Valley and latter was Surgeon for one year of the steamer "Sierra Nevada" plying San Fransisco and Panama. He was interested in the well known Lucky Quarts mine and is now President of the Planet Gravel Mining Company. In 1842 he married Miss Henriette S. Leonard, a natve of Havana New york. They had one son and four daughters, of whom but one daughter is now living.
