Re: Toons in Warwickshire
Indeed, in the year since I posted this I have discovered a lot and much of what I thought was correct has been proved to be wrong...This is a tale of three Job Toons!
The Job Toon I am descended from was born in 1802 in Merevale, Warks to William and Mary Toon.He had at least one brother and sister (William and Charlotte).
Job married an Amelia Wheatley and had 10 children, all born in and around the Merevale/Atherstone area of Warwickshire. They are:
Charlotte b. 1827
James b. 1829
William b. 1831
Edmond b. 1833
Charles b. 1834
Caroline b. 1836
and finally Mary Ann b. 1845
I am descended from Mary Ann as described in the previous message.Amelia died shortly after Mary Ann was born.Job wasn't and engineers or millwright, despite what was written on marriage certificates after his death. He was a carpenter. He was resident in the village of Bentley, Warks. in the 1841 and 1851 censuses. He died in 1859.I have descendency information for James, William, Charles, Thomas and of course, Mary Ann.I have located another branch of the Toons descended from Charles Toon.
Does any of this link with your research?
I don't know how William Toon, Job's father, fits in with all the Toon's in the local area, but I guess there are links farther back than I have so far got.
There are two other Job Toon's who were alive in the area at the same time, the millwright and the husband of Mary Albrighton. It was all very confusing for a while! The key was finding Mary Ann on the 1851 census in Bentley after the 1881 census listed her as being born there. Then I found someone else who had already hit Job and Amelia and had the same information as me further confirming it.
There seem to be a lot of Toons out there researching the name, it certainly seems to be the most productive in terms of research that I have found.
Thanks for your feedback.
