JAMES MONROE WILLIS was born in Tennessee, February 6, l848, and died at Pleasanton, Iowa, March l4, l924, aged 76 years (*can't read) and 7 days. On April (?), l869, he was united in marriage to MALINDA JANE MCGREW, who preceded him in death on March 29, l893. To this union were born ten children, three of whom are deceased: HETTIE, RAY and ETHEL, and seven survive: AMER WILLIS, Des Moines, Iowa; MRS. OLA BICKNELL, Alliance, Neb.; MRS. EFFIE TOOVEY, Seward, Neb.; MRS. BLANCHE BARR, Lineville, Iowa; MRS. ELZA HORTON, Dubuque, Iowa; VERN WILLIS, Seward, Neb.; and MCGREW WILLIS, Los Angeles, California.
In l849, he came to this community with his parents and has resided here continually except for a short time during l862-63, when with his parents he migrated to Oregon and back. He was laid to rest in the family lot at Freedom Cemetery on March l6, l924. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A CARD - We desire to express our heartfelt thanks to the many neighbors and friends for their kindness and sympathy to us in our great bereavement, the death of our beloved father, and assure each one that we duly appreciate their kindness.
