Re: Isaac Towery - Cleveland Co., NC - born ca. 1832
Much appreciate your reply to my posting.I am not a Towery descendant but am very interested in tales of the extended family. The Isaac Towery I am chasing was a brother-in-law to my GGgrandfather, William Owen Brackett. He was the husband of Mary Brackett, my GGgrandfather's sister. He was, I believe, the son of a George and Catherine Towery but I am uncertain as to whether this is one of the Georges you mentioned.
Sometime between 1850 and 1860 George and Catherine Towery moved the family to Kentucky but Isaac remained in Cleveland Co.This information was furnished to me by a descendant of Isaac and Mary's only child, Joseph W. Towery. We also discovered that, after a battle near New Bern, NC in 1863, Isaac went missing and was presumed dead.A sworn statement to that effect, done by my GGgrandfather, who was in the same unit, is contained in Mary's Confederate widow's pension application.
Another of my GGgrandfather's sisters, Rosanna Brackett was married to a George Towery, who I am presuming is the same one you mentioned.Rosanna was the daughter of John Brackett and Jane "Jenny" Deviney. She (Rosanna)had four brother's, two of whom died during the Civil War and at least two sister's including Isaac Towery's wife,Mary.
I had known that this was not a case of brother's marrying sisters but had not yet looked into George Towery's lineage. I believe you helped me tremendously there. My information on the Towerys is limited, but I would be glad to furnish any information on the Bracketts that you may want.
