Towler marriages, Pittsylvania and Bedford cos. Va.

Some were spelled Toler, others Towler - same family.
1793 - Juley (Julia)Toler to Thomas Goad ofBedford. Julia had no parents or guardian. Edmund Toler and Thomas Goad furnished the marriage bonds. They went to Maury County, Tenn. with Robert Goad, father of Thomas.
1799 - Sarah Toler to Joshua Goad. They went to Smith County, Tenn.
year ?- John Toler to Sarah Dalton.
1805 - Sarah Towler to Thomas Goad (another Thomas).
1804 - Nancy Towler to Richard Goad
Sarah and Nancy were daughters of Joseph Towler. When most of the Goads left Virginia for Tenn.ca 1804 Joseph bought up most of their land and left it to the above daughters and other children.
These families lived along the Staunton (Roanoke) River which was the boundary between the two counties. There was a Toler ferry across the river at one time.
Toler,Goad,Dalton,Witcher, Hammack, Meece, Young, Ramsey families were all neighbors ca 1798 and many went to Smith County, Tenn. ca 1804 where they continued to inter-marry.
