Hi Chuck,
I'm in Michigan, been here since second grade but I was born in Harrisburg, IL and my mother like yours was also a Travelstead. My grandpa John Blaine Travelstead, son of William Jasper Travelstead is buried at Bethel Church, Williamson County but a lot of my family lived in Saline Co also and grandpa was born there. My line comes from William Travelstreet, son of Christian Treffenstatt.
Was your North the grandson of Frederick, brother to my William Travelstreet?
I still have family in Saline and Williamson and go down once or twice a year. I always spent part of my summers there while growing up in Michigan so I'm pretty familiar with the area.
My grandfather John Blaine Travelstead was widowed several times and I'm interested in who his other wives were. Have any of your family heard of him?
My grandmother, his wife was Susi Merrell Travelstead, the daughter of Lafayette Merrell and Sarah Springs Merrell of Williamson County.
I've tried unsuccessfully to find a death certificate, death notice or funeral home info on Lafayette Merrell. He died in 1898 and is buried at Bethel Cemetery also. Any suggestions? He could have died in Saline if he was taken to a doctor when he died because they lived out in the country next to Bethel Church and that is very close to Saline County line.
Thanks for the reply 'Cousin' and if I can help you find any information on your family let me know.
Donna
