Travelsteads, Absures, Stanfills
I've recently been investigating the Absure line of my family, which, upon searching at Familysearch.com (the Latter Day Saints search site), yielded considerable info, and if you're looking for some, you might try there.
My Great-great grandmother was Sarah Isabelle Absure(sp?), born 4/11/1850 to Harlin Absher(sp?) and Paulina Travelstead or Palina Travelstreet.Sarah married Riley Stanfill 3-12-1871.Sarah died 11-4-1923.Riley was born 11-5-1842, died 11-7-1922.
Harlin Absure was born in 1822 in Allen Co. KY.Paulina was born in 1823 in Allen, KY.They were married 8-11-1840 in Sumner, TN.
I would appreciate more info on either of them, as my research hasn't yielded more on them specifically.
At the Mormons site (Familysearch.com), the Travelsted name becomes Treffenstatt in earlier generations.Their earliest North American entries for our probable line are
Christian Treffenstatt and Mary Barbara Eckerd.Christian was born about 1728-1730 in the West Rhine River Valley of Germany. About 1751 in Germany he married Mary, born there about 1730.Christian died Sept of 1774 in Rowan Co. NC. (Other place names listed here were Newton, Burke, Lincoln Co.)Mary died 10 Sept 1793 in lincoln Co. NC.
Christian and Mary are attributed with 9 issue (at the Mormom site):Catherine, Elizabeth, Frederick T., Barbara, (Female), Peter, John, William, and Christian.
By typing in Christian Treffenstatt's name and searching the family and pedigree links, you can find a wealth of later generations, marriages, offspring, etc.
My interest lies in John line, I believe.John (son of Christian and Mary) was born about 1766/7 in Rowan, NC, and died in Allen KY (no date available). No wife was listed in the records, but several offspring are.First John, born 1792 in Rowan, NC (He married Levira Deberry 14 June 1830 in Allen KY);then two male Treffenstatts born about 1794 and 1796; then Palina, born 1798 in Rowan, NC; then three females, born approx 1800, 02, and 04.
To this John and Levira Deberry were born Harvey P., Albert Marion, Anthony Hamilton, J.A.M. (male), and Elmarine Isabella.By this generation, the name is spelled Travelstead. All these children were born in Allen Co. KY.John died 14 June 1830; Levira died 15 Sept 1889, both in Allen Co. KY.Dates and other info available on these and perhaps some further generations at Familysearch.
I believe that my ancestor Sarah Absure (sp?), whose mother was Paulina Travelstead must come from this line, since the names Palina and Isabella both occur.
I would appreciate anyone having info on Sarah Isabelle Absure, Harlin Absure, Paulina Travelstead (sp?) and Riley Stanfill please post a reply.
