LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at a Mass of Christian Burial in The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Raymond J. Morvant, 78, who died at 3:15 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Entombment will be in St. John Cemetery Mausoleum.
The Rev. Lloyd F. Benoit, associate pastor of The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services assisted by the Rev. Mr. Joseph Trahan of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard.
Musical selections will be "J'irai la voir un jour", "Notre Pere", "On Eagles' Wings", "Be Not Afraid" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee".
A native of Broussard and a resident of Lafayette, Mr. Morvant was a veteran of military service, having served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Medusa during World War II. He was a member of The Cathedral of St. John Catholic Community.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Morvant was employed with SLEMCO in the service department for 41 years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Marie May Trahan Morvant, of Lafayette; three daughters, Veda Guilbeau and her husband, Charles Guilbeau Jr., of Lafayette, Germaine Dartez and her husband, Rene Dartez, of Sugar Land, Texas, and Denise Clary and her husband, Charles "Chuck" Clary, of Lafayette; and five grandchildren, Leslie and Naomie Guilbeau, Andrew Dartez, Ryan and Colin Clark.
He was preceded in death by one son, John Morvant; his parents, Cleodias and Henrietta Bernard Morvant; his brother, Harry Morvant; and one sister, Thelma Bodoin.
A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
Visitation will be observed from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 8 a.m. Thursday until time of the funeral Mass.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Lafayette General Medical Center Sixth Floor, Dr. Maurice Sullivan, Dr. Richard Fei and Dr. Al Beacham.
Pallbearers will be Charles Guilbeau, Rene Dartez, Chuck Clary, Mike Morvant, Ryan Clark and Andrew Dartez.
Honorary pallbearer will be Robert Bell.
