TRIBBLE, TREBBLE & PREBLE of Devon, UK
PREBLE ...is another surname variation found in 19thC Devon records.
IGI C050801 has Sarah Ann TREBBLE born Dartmouth, England, 17 Dec 1806; chr 1 Mar 1807 Townstal or St Clements; the daughter of James TREBBLE & Elizabeth.
Sarah appears to have had an illegitimate daughter:
IGI C050801 has Sarah Ann TRIBBLE b Dartmouth 16 Dec 1826; chr 9 Feb 1827 Townstal or St Clements; daughter of Sarah TRIBBLE.
This younger Sarah Ann is subsequently found listed as PREBLE:
FreeBDM has the Kingsbridge marriage Sep qtr 1852 of Sarah Ann PREBLE to Henry HYNE.
FreeCensus 1861 has Henry HINE, Sarah A HINE and three children living at Paignton, Devon.
The census records that Sarah was born Townstall.
Sarah Ann HYNE was apparently illiterate as she made her mark X as witness on the death certificate of her mother, Sarah CARTER who died 16 Jan 1881 at Babbicombe, Torquay, Devon. According to the death cert, the daughter was still living at Paynton (Paignton) at that time.
The deceased, Sarah CARTER, aged 74 years, was the widow of Coastguard John CARTER, who is my Gt.Gt.Grandfather.
The 1871 Census of Babbicombe, St Mary Church Parish, Devon, (Source Citation: Class: RG10; Piece: 2089; Folio: 107; Page: 36; GSU roll: 831783.) has John CARTER, retired coastguard, aged 67, and wife Sarah CARTER, aged 64, born Dartmouth, Devon.
Sarah was John's second wife. His first died in 1862. So John & Sarah apparently married between 1862 and 1871.
I do not know if Sarah was a spinster or a widow when she married John CARTER, as I have yet to find record of their marriage.
FreeBMD has a Sarah Ann TRIBBLE married Mar qtr 1870 @ Totnes vol 5b; page 256. (2 brides, 1 groom, other groom unrecorded??)This MIGHT be the marriage I seek, but more research is needed.
This is the only info I have regarding the TRIBBLE; TREBBLE & PREBLE family.
