Re: Lee Co., Va- W. Va Tritt/Kincaid/Light Connection
Stephen, Balthazar Tritt was known as: Belsher, Balsher,Balthus, Balthazar and other variations. It was thought for years by many researchers that he came into America with two Brothers--Henry and Jacob d'trit, Not true. He came as the only Tritt on the Ship named Anderson on september 27, 1752. Our Tritt, d'trit, Tritton family originated in Lenk Switzerland. Some families went across the Mountains to France for a while then to Germany for a sojourn before some migrated to the U.S.A.We have not been able so far to connect our Balthazar to The Two Tritt Bros. who settled in Pa and then one in Ohio. I've talked several times with the descendants of those while they were writing their "Tritt Books" and Newsleters. I have copies of all those. I'm sure that way,way back in Switzerland we are all from the same Blood line.
I have copies of Balthazar/Belsher/ Balthus Land Grant # 1599 surveyed 8-27-1791 in Cataba Co. N.C . Also His will, one of the oldest on record written ,March 6, 1794 and the approval of estate Nov.16,1797 in Lincoln Co. N.C. His only sons were Henry and Samuel , some daughters, His wife was Mary Magdalena. Listed in the Will. Henry had several children- two of which were Jacob and Peter. I have his documented records also. Samuel was to receive less than the others for ," A reason which he knew about". He never came back to claim his inheritance.
I have many large Note Books worth of Tritt info which I have collected over a period of 25 years research.
I don't believe anyone has the correct info about the first West Va. Tritt's but I don't believe the first one there was Peter since Balthazar did not have a son Peter, but one Grandson. He was the only one found in the first real documentation of the Tritt family coming down from Pa, or Baltimore.
