Pierre Troge
The oldest record of the Troge name I can find is that of Pierre Troge who settled in the French settlement of Cahokia ,Ill. near St. Louis in the 1700's and is buried there. From what I can find is he was married, childless and was involved in a court case over a child he and his wife raised for 10 years out of kindness to a poor woman. When the woman regained status she and her husband sued for the return of the child and won, restitution for the expenses to be paid by the plaintiff. The Troge's moved to Spanish territory across the Mississippi River to try to avoid this judgement but the Spanish governor upheld the decision and the child was returned.Cemetery records indicate Pierre died 8-24-1787.This is quite interesting as I remember my grandmother saying she thought the Troge family originated in the Alsace-Lorraine area between France and Germany. Is Pierre an ancestor?
