Re: James F. Trotti
I have some information regarding this marriage and family of James F. TROTTI of Newton County, Texas. He was the GGGGgrandfather of my wife. However, she descends from Hsi first marriage to Harriet HARLEY.
Unfortunately, I cannot provide much more information that you already appear to have discovered. The following is what I can add:
- Nancy R. HEAD was born circa 1829 in Mississippi
- This union produced three known offsping: Josephine (b.ca.1854); Wiley W. (b.ca.1855); and Mary (b.ca.1859)
Unless Josephine was the second given name of the eldest child, then it would appear there was no "N. J." TROTTI. (Though it is possible. Since the mother's given name was Nancy, her full name could have been Nancy Josephine. However, I have no proof one way or the other.)
The above information derives primarily from the 1860 Newton County, Texas, enumeration. It is interesting to note that by 1870 James is found living alone as a 76 year old, "retired farmer", in the residence next to his son, Lawrence (John Lawrence; my wife's GGGgrandfather). All of his children from his marriage to Nancy (HEAD) would have still been minors, but are not present under his roof — nor that of his son. Which begs the question as to their wheerabouts.
Another researcher has reported that there was a fifth child — a daughter, Dora — but I have found no evidence to support this information.
Feel free to contact me if you wish to discuss this family further.
