Truitt to Trutt in Pa.

My gggrandfather Peter Trutt married Harriet Savilla Renn, circa 1900 in Shamokin, Northumberland county Pa. I was told the previous generation changed the Truitt to Trutt.
Peters father was French married a Cree Indian...probably from Canada. If some one can shed some light I'd appreciate it.
