Hello Kathe,
Thanks for your thoughtful response. One will I found in passing (a 'Beale' of Prince George's Co MD) directed his heirs to sell their Maryland holdings and buy in Virginia. This was during the same period that your Richard Turner turned up in Caroline County. It was probably easier to reach Eastern Virginia by water if traveling from Southern Maryland.
Since the Bible makes no distinction between Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (and the names are repeated often enough in this sequence), I would think that the parents would use all three names, beginning with Shadrach, and continuing if they had two more sons. Why leave Shadrach out and name sons Meshach and Abednego ?Unless he died.Children do die.Usually the name dies with them but I have seen instances of names ’recycled’.
My bet is with the three brothers, all grandsons of Richard. And, looking at my generational chart, it’s possible that it was a Maryland Brashears daughter who married the father (John ?) of yourS. M. & Abednego.Possibly a sister of Elizabeth Brashiers, (daughter of Samuel) who married John Turner II.In that generation,Priscilla Prather married William Brashear and Ann Hyatt (sister of Seth) married Thomas Brashears.
Perhaps Seth’s wife Alice was also a Brashear. This would so agreeably solve the puzzle because all the Shadrach’s would be 1st cousins and it would also account for the repetition of Jeremiah as I found several Jeremiahs in the early Brashear line.
Oh it is frustrating but if all the puzzles were easily solved we would become bored !!Thanks again.Pam
