Re: Tutwiler information
Jerry the hardest thing about tracking any records in Virginia is dealing with what happened during the civil war. Records were moved from county to county to keep the union from getting a hold of them..there were many records of family trait that were lost in wagon fires during transport. My side of the family was under John Sr and Mary Strough who were from Rockingham county but the records that I needed to find ended up in Augusta county. What might help you would be to take a week and go out to VIrginia and start in the town of Bridgewater just a few miles south of Harrisonburg, from there check the public library in Harrisonburg for a book called Tutwiler, then start south checking the cemeteries and other court houses (within 3 counties south of Harrisonburg) and gather all the record information. You will be amazed the information you can find Jerry. There are so many records of information that are yet to be uncovered, it's just a matter of time and effort looking where no one else has.
