Tweedy DNA
I am a Tweedy on my father's maternal side, i.e. my grandmother a Tweedy. I am the Director of the Ulster DNA Project and Co Director of the Irish DNA Project, i.e I work with genetic genealogy quite a bit.
From the data passing across my desk I notice that not all Tweedys are the same, some are Norse/or Norman in ancestry, and others are Gaelic/or Cymraeg in ancestry. So there are multiple origins of the name Tweedy. Suggest it is a topographic origin name.
I would urge more Tweedys to participate in the DNA testing.Especially those Tweedys from the Ozarks and
Southern Illinois.
With DNA we can really start connecting to our kinsmen in Ireland, and the UK.
Tweedys can use this DNA web site.
