Re: Twente's Alex Co. IL
I realize the posting is a bit old, but along I come with some additions/corrections.
Up until last fall I had thought my GG Grandmothers maiden name was Hall, until I found her daughters death certificate.
Sarah Straub, my fathers grandmother, was born Sarah Ann Twente. She was born in 1871 to Louis and Mary Ann Twente.
On the 1880 census she is listed at age 9, with Louis A, age 7 and Liza age 2.
William, Emaline and Joseph were the additional children, all having passed away as infants or toddlers.
I have alternately seen Sarah's mother represented as Mary Ann Holmes, and Mary Ann Hargis.
The California Death Index says her mother's name was Hargis.
In 1880 Louis and Mary Ann lived next door to 2 Hargis families. James and Evaline in one home,a nd an M.F. in another. James was 25, M.F. was 26, both several years younger than Mary Ann, so possibly brothers? In the household of M.F. Hargis is his mother, her name is Sarah A. Hargis, possibly Sarah Ann Twente was named after her?
In that same household is Frank Straub, who eventually marries Sarah Ann Twente.
Also, in Louis and Mary Ann's home on that census, is Caroline Clark, listed as a niece.
I am only now beginning to dig on that side of the family tree. Frank Straub, and Sarah Twente's youngest daughter Monie, married my G Grandfather, John Anderson Williamson.
