The online catalog of the Skinner auction house at their auction #2710B offered as Lot #193 a pair of portraits of General Jonas and Elizabeth (Tylee) Mapes. Jonas Mapes was born 6 Sept. 1768 in Southold, Long Island, New York, and died 10 July 1827 in New York City. He married Elizabeth Tylee of New York city on 12 October 1827.
On the date of my writing this message, photos of these portraits are still available online at:
but they may be taken offline soon. In the event they are taken offline, I have downloaded them and will be happy to send copies freely by email to Mapes & Tylee family researchers. Someone in the families ought to have them, which is why I’m keeping copies of them and posting about them. It would be a very great shame and injustice were they to be missed by their descendants or relatives.
My email address can be found by clicking on my underlined name above. Note that there is a period between both of my names and between the two words in the second half of my address.
Please email me directly to my email address rather than respond to me on this website as I may not see that response.
If they were portraits of a Pease couple in my family line, I’d certainly hope someone would do the same for me. Call it a simple, but appropriate, genealogy good deed.
