URIEs of Paisley and Greenock, Renfrew
Robert b. c1823 and John URIE b. c1821 were the sons of John URIE and Agnes McFARLANE of Paisley, Renfrewshire. Both men became involved in the development of photography in Scotland, John in particular contributed several important inventions in this developing technology.John's studios were in Glasgow and Robert sent up one at 32 Hamilton Street, Greenock, Renfrewshire.
Robert and his wife Janet GARDNER moved to Brooklyn, New York where their first two sons died before moving back to Scotland to set up his studio.Once there they had 12 more children, one of the middle ones being Hugh Gardner URIE b. 1859, my great grandfather.Hugh became a marine engineer and moved to the shipping port of Liverpool where he met and married Charlotte Anne BRIGNALL b. c1858.
I am interested in finding any descendents of Hugh's siblings and also continuing to trace the URIEs in Paisley.
