Mr. ARMON O. URIE
Armon Otis Urie, age 87, of Sedan, Kansas, died Saturday, October 7, 2000, at the Cedar Vale Community Hospital in Cedar Vale, Kansas.
Armon was born August 21, 1913 in Celt, Missouri to James C. and Hester Ann (Conn) Urie. At the age of 14, Armon moved with his family to Cambridge, Kansas and then to Foraker, Oklahoma.
On October 29, 1934, Armon married Mary Blanche Walker at Sedan. They moved to the Moore Prairie Community southwest of Sedan in 1935 and to their present farm in 1941. They would have celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary October 29th.
Armon was a farmer and rancher. He worked in the oil field and for the Chautauqua County Road Department for 32 years as a Road Maintainer. He attended the Wauneta Methodist Church.
He leaves his wife, Mary, of the home, one son, Richard and wife, Glenda, of rural Sedan, KS, two granddaughters, Kim and husband, Doug Holt, of rural Cedar Vale, KS, Dawne and husband, Kevin Stevenson, of Rexford, KS, one grandson, Rusty and wife, Shannon Rhodes, and great grandchildren Andrew, Denton and Chelsea Holt, Ryan and Tyler Stevenson and Kalee Rhodes.
Armon was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lowell, and his sister, Faye.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2000, at the Wauneta Methodist Church with the Reverends Bill Long and Larry Bowyer officiating. Burial followed in the Moore Prairie Cemetery under the direction of the Graves Funeral Home in Caney, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorials to the Wauneta Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society and contributions may be left at the funeral home.
