Spartanburg - Martha "Patsy" Utley Hammett
Martha "Patsy" married to William Hammett was "thought" to be a Seay.However this is incorrect.She is a daughter of Jacob Utley.Many thanks to author Kathleen Parkman Lamb, who has written many books of the Hammett/Utleys/Underwoods of SC/TN.
Recorded 1827. Rhea Co., Tn. deed #455 (E-473) May 11, 1826, Registered June 13, 1828: Deed of conveyance, Richard G. Waterhouse to Thomas J. Underwood for $200.00, 130 acres, being an island in Whites Creek, then Roane Co., a short distance above the mouth of Camp Creek. Title bond executed Jana. 6, 1816 to John Underwood. Mentions corer to James Rogers. Surveyed July 20, 1815 by Waterhouse...John Underwood, Sr. and Jr. CC..And whereas the said John Underwood assigned said title bond to Jacob Utley by endorsement June. 26, 1822, and the said Utley died interstate being the reputed parent of four sons, John, Henry, Burrel and William and five daughters, Jane the wife of the said John Underwood, Patsey, wife of William Hammet, Sarah, wife of M. Thornton, Polly, wife of Henry Utley, Francis, wife of Benjamin High. John Underwood administered said estate and together with five other legatees sold all their interest and estate in the 130 acres to the eldest son, Thomas J. Underwood of Roane Co., who is herebybound to extinguish the claims of said house not be liable to be recorvered on for the same.
