I am also chasing UTLEYS but in the1700's. My G-G-G-Grandfather MATHEW UTLEY was living in Huntington County, Pa. when he died in 1783. Iam trying to find where he came from and his father and mother's names. My search has taken me into Maryland, Virginia , Pennsylvania and Connecticut. I found a huge number of UTLEYS in Connecticut in the early 1700's and up into the 1800's.
There was a JOHN UTLEY born in Connecticut in 1753 and died in New York State in1839. This is shown in Revolutionary Soldiers From Connecticut. However it says his wife was THANKFUL KINNEY. and he did not apply for a paension.

He was living in Goshen, Orange County, N.Y. when he enlisted in the New York Line. His pension file number is S 14746. By the time he applied for pension in 1826 he was living in York, Livingstone County, N.Y. He was living in Genesco, N.Y. in 1835. He died in 1839 . No wife's name was in the pension file but there was a son JOHN and 3 other unamed children

Wife was ELIZABETH and he died in Vermoant. However when he enlisted.he was living at Kinderhook, N.Y. When he applied for pension he was living in Vermont.. He died in 1843 without receiving his pension so his widow applied again in 1853. The pension file number is W 25820BLW 31731-160-55. It stated he had a grandson JEREMIAH, age 40, living at Willsboro, Essex County, NY.
