2nd Lt. David F. Vale from Port Washington, Wisconsin
"David F. Vale is a 2nd lieutenatant of Company K., 16th Wisconsin Volunteers. Age 25. Worked as a Wagon maker before the War. Residence Port Wahsington, Wisconsin.
Entered the service in October, 1861, in good health and continued so until the 6th day of April, 1862, when he received a gunshot wound in the left thigh at the battle of Shiloh, the ball entering at the lower and posterior part of the upper third of the left thigh. The ball was cut out on the external side about four inches below the trochanter. Both wounds are now healed. He complains of a sense of numbness on the outer and dorsal part of the left foot. His general health is good.
Opinion-That he will NOT be fit for duty in a less time than sixty days."
