D. "Richard" Valerga & Susan Louise Ward
Dominico "Richard" Valerga, born October 24, 1849 "at sea" while his parents were immigrating to the U.S., died in S.F. March 20, 1922. He married Susan Louise Ward on May 9, 1876 in Folsom, CA.They had three sons: Albert D, born in September 1878, Claude, born January 1880, and Raymond D., born May 1888.
Susan Louise Ward was born August 8, 1858 in Butte County and died May 24, 1945 in SF.She was the daughter of James Dwyer Ward, a SF police sargeant (probably born in 1828 in Sligo, County Sligo, Ireland and who died September 3, 1874 in SF) and Mary Leonard born about 1839 in Troy, NY of an Irish immigrant father and a mother who may have been born in the US.When Susan Louise was born, James Dwyer seems to have been a saloonkeeper is Oroville, CA.
Dominico Richard/Dick Valerga and Susan Louise Ward were both singers - mostly light opera at the Tivoli and Wigwam Theaters in San Francisco and probably meet there. Many of Richard's siblings were likewise active in light and classic opera.More on that and their three sons will be written later by me and other decendents.
