Dear Jaime,
You and I are distant cousins. Pedro Garcia and Panfila Valerio had 12 children that I have found so far. I had the pleasure of meeting Elodia Saenz a couple of years ago and a Valerio/Lamb[ert] reunion at her home in La Rosita.
I'll list what I have on them (with a few comments).
Panfila (the mother of Guadalupe Garcia [your direct ancestor] and also Lorenza Garcia [my direct ancestor]) was baptized Panfila Torres on Jun 9th 1825 in Mier, Tamaulipas, MX. She is listed as the daughter of Cecilio Torres and Gertrudis Trevino. This Cecilio Torres is the same person as Cecilio Valerio [Note in an earlier record of his marriage in Camargo, TAM, MX on April 23, 1823, he is listed as Cecilio de la Torre Valero and his wife is Maria Gertrudis Trevino de la Garza]. Several of the Valerios (Juan, Felipe, etc.) were also baptized with the last name "Torres" and then later went by Valerio.
Thus, in later records of the births of the Garcia children (progeny of Pedro Garcia and Panfila), Panfila's last name is recorded with many variations [Valerio, Trevino, Torres] that indicate her ancestry.
Children of Pedro Garcia and Panfila Torres (Valerio):
Maria Regina Garcia born 4Sep1843 in Matamoros, TAM, MX
Lorenza Garcia born 10Aug1845 in Matamoros
Jose Avato Garcia born Nov 1847 in Matamoros
Dolores Garcia born about 1850 in Mexico
Jose Simon Garcia born 22Feb1852 in Matamoros
Maria Teresa Garcia born 1Sep1853 in Matamoros
Pedro Garcia [Jr.] born about 1856 in Texas
Angelita Garcia born 1Aug1858 in Texas
Gabriela Garcia born about 1860 in Texas
Guadalupe Garcia born about 1862 in Texas
Octaviano Garcia born about 1867 in Texas
Juan Garcia born about 1871 in Texas
Elodia Saenz claims that the eldest daughter (Maria Regina Garcia) was actually Panfila's sister (that Panfila's mother died so Panfila raised her youngest sister). However, the baptismal records that I have do not indicate this. Elodia claims she has proof, but I have not seen it.
If I have listed an exact date in the names above, I have a baptismal record to verify them. Others were estimated from census data.
Pedro and Panfila are found in the 1860 Texas census and in later censuses.
Good luck with your search. Please contact me if you have further questions.
Sincerely,
James Epperson
