STARBUCK — Earl LeRoy “Bud” Valnes, 69, of Starbuck died Wednesday at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at West Zion Lutheran Church in rural Hancock. Burial will be at a later date at the church cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Starbuck Honor Guard.
Visitation will be for two hours prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck.
He was born April 6, 1937, in Pope County to Ray and Vivian (Hendrickson) Valnes. He attended country school and graduated from Hancock High School in 1955. He attended North Dakota State University and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1957. He was honorably discharged in 1959.
He married Carol Elhard in 1960. They moved to Wisconsin and he worked in a sporting goods store. They later moved to Cloquet and he worked in the water conditioning business.
He married Lotus Olson in March of 1978. They lived in Starbuck. He worked for various farmers. He suffered a bleed from an arteriovenous malformation in the brain when he was 29, and suffered a more severe hemorrhage on March 15.
He is survived by his wife; daughters: Shelly (and David) Decker of Hines, Melissa Anne Duffek of Antigo, Wis.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his siblings: Richard (and Caroline) Valnes of Eugene, Ore., Betty Anderson of Glenwood, Robert (and Barbara) Valnes of Morris, Harvey (and Sherrie) Valnes of Lynden, Wash., and Vickie Bratton of Morris.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; and one daughter: Sharon.
