A SIX-GENERATION ANCESTRAL CHART; begining with all of the children of my wife & I as No.1: [I began my active research of our family's history during the summer of 1971, and I just recently found the correct maiden name of my wife's grtgrandmother, Sarah Cyntha (Owens) Keesling, and her mother's maiden name, during this summer of 2011.Although this family chart covers a period of 40 years of active research, it is still to be considered to be in a work - in - progress form, and all information contained in it is as good as the information given in the sources that were given to, or found by, me.I will try my best to offer proven sources upon request by active researchers who share their lines with me, while reserving my time for further research & future posts in progress.]

[Note: The County Clerk of Wheeler Co. signed our marriage license on Apr. 11, 1966.The Justice of the Peace also signed it & stated that he had performed our wedding ceremony on that same date, because we all believed that he would be able to by midnight.But he wasn't able to until the wee hours of the morning, about 3 am, of the 12th of April. So we celebrate as our wedding day on the 12th, even though our marriage license says we were married on the 11th.]

8. George Henry "Doc" LAWSON, M.D.; b Sep. 10, 1863, in the small village called Kinburn [Constance P.O., because there was already a Kinburn P.O. in Ontario, Canada. His father was the first postmaster of Constance P.O., which was also the local store in Kinburn, and was owned by grandpa's Uncle Michael Cochran Patterson], Hullett Twp, Huron Co, Ontario, Canada. The store in Kinburn failed in 1863, said to be due to econonmic conditions as a result of the Civil War in America.Grandpa's family moved to Illinois, in 1864, to live on a large farm owned by his Aunt Isabelle (Patterson) Pease, recently widowed during the Civil War.Aunt Isabelle remarried and grandpa's family moved across the river to Ft Madison, Iowa.A few years later, his family moved to KS to get 160 Acres of land under the new "Homestead Act".Grandpa was about 10 years old when his family arrived in KS, where he helped his father & his Uncle James Patterson with their various duties as local farmers of Clay Co, KS.He was said to have shared interests in the Morganville Grain Co. with his bro-in-law, Alexander Marion Dugger.He also taught school, as his father had, studied agriculture at KS State in Manhatton, KS, and he was a member of the graduating class of 1906 Kansas School of Medicine at Washburn University in Topeka, KS. My Grandpa Lawson was a 38 year-old med-student in Topeka, KS, when he met my Grandma, "Lizzie" Van Cleave, a 19 year-old high school graduate, and they were married in Topeka on Feb. 19, 1902.After the death of grandpa's mother in 1906, my grandparents bought a farm near Morganville, in Bloom Twp, Clay Co, KS, where grandpa's main occupation was farming, but where he also served the community as a "country doctor", [making house-calls, mostly to deliver babies, but occassionally to make a diagnosis, sometimes as a consultant for other doctors who had called upon him for a diagnosis or for a second opinion.]After the tragic death on my 40-year-old Grandma Lawson on Dec. 19, 1921, her sister, Aunt Minnie Root, adopted my 3 day-old Uncle Bennie [Benjamin Crabb Lawson-Root], and my 4-year-old Aunt Mary & 2 year-old Aunt Catherine were taken into the home of grandpa's brother & wife, Uncle Dave & Aunt Rose (Miles) Lawson.My 7 year-old Dad may have been cared for by one or more of the numerous relatives on both sides, until he was a 10 year-old living on the farm & attending the old Washington Schoolhouse, where my Uncle George eventually became one of his teachers. My grandpa Lawson was left with raising the rest of the boys, 16 year-old Uncle Arthur Edwin Lawson[who died about 2 years later of Bright's Disease], 14 year-old Uncle George Patterson Lawson, 12 year-old Uncle Marion VanCleave Lawson [who was lost in a blizzard in Colorado a short time later] & 9 year-old Unlce Walt [Walter Raymond Lawson].In 1932, Grandpa Lawson lost the family farm during the beginning of the "Great Depression" [according to my Grandpa Hitsman he was "bucking the board of trade" trying to earn enough to pay off his mortgage], and he also lost his health & vigor about the same time. On Mar. 24, 1936, Grandpa Lawson died, in my mother's arms, of Cancer of the Stomach, at the home of his brother, "Unlce Dave" Lawson of Broughton, Clay Co, KS.[Uncle Dave's son, David II was appointed Supervisor of Music of The Topeka Public Schools in 1928.]

9. Dulcena Elizabeth "Lizzie" Van Cleave was born Aug. 19, 1881, on the "Goodbar place" near Parkersburg, Montgomery Co, Indiana.[Note: Her birthplace is from "Incidents In My Life" written by her sister, "Aunt Minnie" Jewett (Van Cleave) Root, "My father was a tenant farmer.I remember living on a farm at Brick Chapel, and two farms at Parkersburg, the Goodbar and McMurtrie places.The Goodbar was the last place we lived, and of course, was the best remembered."Aunt Minnie also wrote of the night of my Grandma Lawson's birth, "We had long expected cousin Arthur [Edwin] Bradlee of Boston [son of George W & Elizabeth Stone (Jewett) Bradlee].One night we were awakened and told cousin Arthur would be at Grandfather Chase's {where his widow, cousin Arhtur's mother's sister, his Aunt Hannah (Jewett) Chase lived} soon, and they wanted us to be there to meet him.Father carried Walter, and Edwin and I stumbled along in the dark as best we could, down the country road.Father took one of mother's sisters home with him.The next morning, he came to say that we had a new baby girl, and mother wanted me to come home and do the dishes.Cousin Arthur got to Grandfather's home sometime that day, August 19, 1881".The baby girl was Dulcena, who married George Lawson, and they named their first-born son Arthur Edwin Lawson.]
[Note: Aunt Minnie continued, "That fall, father contracted typhoid fever, and when he was convalescing, the doctor thought he should change climates.Mother's brother, Jim Chase, went to Texas and found a ranch he could buy, on the fork of the Nolan, near the Brazos River.Grandmother {Hannah (Jewett) Chase} furnished the money... {obviously from the sale of her large farm & "old nursery with a good orchard" near Parkersburg}.Lizzie was three months old the day we got to Texas.The Van Cleave family came to Topeka, a few at a time, and by September 1888, all were here..." {Lizzie had just turned 7, and received most, if not all, of her public education in Topeka.}]
As stated above Grandma Lawson was married to George H Lawson in Topeka in 1902, and they were blessed with ten children.While she was pregnant with their tenth child, Uncle Benny, she was bit by a rat, contributing to her death just three days after he was born.Just before her death, she told her 14- year old son, Uncle George, that her greatest sorrow in dying was that her youngest children would not even remember her, and that none of her grandchildren would ever know her at all.On the very day of her death, her recently widowed father wrote the following poem:
IF THOU HADST BEEN THERE
"Hadst Thou been here," Dear lonely heart:
He notes each falling tear.
He knows how heavy is the load -
The grief thou canst not bear.
"Lo, I am with thee:" Yes He's here,
His loving hand will guide;
Go pour your sorrows in His ear,
And in His love confide.
Oh give me faith and make me strong:
Through life I'd be thine own,
And lean on Thine Almighty arm
Till my last breath has flown.
The Lord hath given, May He not take,
Oh bless His Holy name:
Through all the changing scenes of life,
His love is just the same.
I would not have one trial less,
But I am oh so weak;
The "grace sufficient" from above,
Is all that I would seek.
Help me look above for strength,
My all to Thee resign;
And say in faith, through smiles and tears,
"Lord, Not my will, but Thine."
(Signed) B. M. Van Cleave.
