Let me try to get you started.
I research the Spurlock family and related families. In that effort, I recently checked out tyhe 1830 census for Logan County, West Virginia (then Va.).
Two Spurlocks were on page 283 of that census. On pages 268-285 were scads of related familoes. On page 285 were two "Vandel" familes headed byAbraham and John D.
Part of Logan County was included in the formation of Boone County in 1847. There I found William T. "Vandall"., age 30.
Nearby families in 1830 Logan, related to the Spurlocks, were Asdkins, Ferrell, Griffith, Hager, Linvillre, Miller, Canterbury, Pauley, Toney, Dial, Cummins, Bias, Vickers, Roberts. Same for Boone County and later Lincoln County.
Richard Henry Spurlock born 1818 named a son "Vandrel" which may or may not connect.
Any of this ring a bell ?
