Van Dyke yDNA
It would be quite helpful to Van Dyke ancestral research if Van Dyke surnamed males would have their yDNA tested, preferably on a resolution of at least 67 STR (Short Tandem Repeats) markers, and send results to a project for public viewing. The Family Tree DNA database currently has a few Van Dyke DNA samples, but the results are not open to public view.
Van Dyke yDNA results might be sent to such projects as Netherlands Dual and Netherlands Y. There is currently a sample from a descendant of Gerrit van Dijk, 1889-1956, under Kit # N80132, at www.familytreedna.com/public/Netherlands/default.aspx?section=yresultsThe haplogroup subclade is R1b1a2a1a1, which is of interest in terms of deep ancestry. A tree at Ancestry.com lists Gerrit van Dijk, born 24 November 1889, and died 7 August 1956 at Gemeente Heerlin, Netherlands. This Gerrit reportedly descends from Gerrit van Dijk, born 1848, and died 17 April 1901 at Veenendahl, Utrecht Province. Veenendahl lies southeast of Amersfoort. It would be fascinating if any American-line Van Dyke could be shown to have common ancestry with this Dutch van Dijk line.
I do not see a current listing for any van Dijk (or alternate spelling) at the Netherlands Y DNA Project: www.familytreedna.com/public/NetherlandsY/default.aspx?section=yresults
