Christopher Vane, s/o Henry Vane Jr.(1653-1723)
Christopher Vane was baptized on 21 May 1653 and died on
21 October 1723, age 70, at Fairlawn, Shipbourne, Tonbridge, Kent, and he is buried in the Fairlawn Church.
He was a son of Sir Henry Vane Jr. and wife, Frances Wray.
His marriage to Lady Elizabeth Holles, daughter of Sir Gilbert Holles and wife, Grace Pierrepont, was licensed on
9 May 1676. Elizabeth was born about 1657 and died on 9 November 1725. They had three sons:
1: Henry Vane, born and died in 1676.
2: Gilbert Vane, 2nd Barnard Baronet of Barnard Castle, was
born in 1678 and died 1753.
3: William Vane, was born in 1680 and died in 1734.
In 1675-1679, Christopher was a Member of Parliament for
County Durham (a Whig).
He was Privy Councellor on 6 July 1688.
On 25 July 1698 Christopher Vane was styled lst Barnard Baronet of Barnard Castle.His wife, Elizabeth, was styled, Baroness Barnard of Barnard Castle.
The title is still carried on in the descendants of Christopher and Elizabeth (Holles) Vane.
