I have acquired some Van Pelt family history. My husbands Grandmother was Mildred Belle Van Pelt, daughter of Anna Belle Hart and Elmer Van Pelt (b. 1861).Elmer was one of 5 children to Hiram Van Pelt (b.1820 in New York).Hiram was one of 10 children to Samuel(baptized abt.1778). Samuel was one of 10 children to Maria Van Slyke and Peter Van Pelt (b.1748 - grew up in Kinderhook community - Cosackie - near Hudson River). Peter was one of 7 children to Samuel.Samuel was baptized abt 1717, possible death abt. 1785.He was married to Cornelia and to Maria Van Volkenburg (sisters).1747 they leased a house and 1 acre - Staten Island. Samuel was 1 of 7 born to Peter (records also spelled Pieter, Dutch form)and Sarah Bogardos. Pieter was born in 1672 - Staten Island. He died somewhere between Dec. 23, 1742 and May 2, 1752.Peter (Pieter) was the oldest of 9 children born (in Belgium) to John Tunison Van Pelt. John Tunison Van Pelt had purchased 101 acres in Long Island (no date).Siblings to Peter(Pieter) are: Tunis, Samuel, Johannes, Hendrick, Jacob, John, Daniel DeHart, Ann Margaret - Aert.John Tunison Van Pelt was one of 5 boys and 1 girl born to Tonnes Jansen Lanen Van Pelt who came from Belgium (Holland).Tonnes had purchased land -Long Island abt. 1670. This information came into my hands from a family member, abt.15 years ago, as a typed resource. It appears to be information gathered and typed by a Winifred Edwards at a visit with (maybe) Van Pelt family, abt. 1963. I would appreciate any information you could shed on this lineage as well as I hope this might help someone else.Where I have listed a number of siblings in the household, I do have names for them.If this is something you need please get in touch with me. Happy Searching! Thanks!
