Robert Van Pelt passed away January 29, 2006. Mr. Van Pelt was born 09/13/1927 in Archer, Nebraska, and was raised in Aurora, Nebraska, where he attended public schools and was a member of Aurora High School's graduating class of 1945. Mr. Van Pelt retired from military service after a career with various intelligence organizations of the Department of Defense. Following retirement from the Air Force, he was employed as an insurance investigator with Retail Credit Company, a property tax administrator with the South San Antonio and the Southside Independent School Districts in San Antonio, Texas. He was an appointed member of the Appraisal Review Board with the Bexar County Appraisal District in San Antonio. Mr. Van Pelt was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion in Aurora, Nebraska. He was a member of Harlandale Masonic Lodge #1213 AF&AM, San Antonio, Texas, 32nd Degree with the Cheyenne Consistory, Cheyenne, Wyoming, and El Karubah Shrine, Shreveport, Louisiana, where he was active with the parade unit. He was a member of the National Army Security Agency Association, a Life Member of the Air Force Security Service/Air Intelligence Agency Alumni Association, and a Life Member of the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo Association, where he was active with the Ambassador Committee. Mr. Van Pelt was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 1973, and by his wife Eve in 1988. He is survived by his daughters, Kathy (John) Keenan, of Bossier City, LA, Marsha (Richard) Slevin, of Bowling Green, KY, and his son David (Lois) Van Pelt, of Lampasas, TX, his five grandchildren, Guy Goarin, Karianne (David) Halcro, Matthew (Christina) Keenan, Becky Van Pelt, and Ruthie (Bryan) Hall. His great-grandchildren include Alexandra, Arianna, Nick, Tiffany, Joey, Payton, and Kyle. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Margaret Daniels, of San Antonio, TX, and Ann Dakmak, of Baton Rouge, LA. Graveside services for Mr. Van Pelt will be held Friday, February 3, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, with Masonic services under the auspices of Harlandale Lodge #1213, AF&AM. Mr. Van Pelt has requested that, in lieu of floral tributes, all tributes and memorials be sent to Shriners' Childrens Hospitals.
