Chris - If Cass Co is involved, there probably is a connection with the cemetery.I have not been able to make a connection with my Van Riper in Cass. Here is a bit about my line.
Elizabeth Van Riper born 1783 in Passaic NJ, dau of Jacob Van Rypen and Abigail LaRoe.
She married Garret Van Horn at or near Paterson NJ. Their children were -
Jacob Van Horn 1809-1867, died in Berrien Co. Mich. Cornelius G. Van Hornborn 1805died Will Co. Illinois
Children of Jacob Van Rypen and Abigail LaRoe were - Elizabeth (Van Horn) Cornelius Abraham John Tunis Jacob Lucretia Anny
There are references in the family about a "Uncle John Van Riper", assume that is Elizabeth's brother, and at one time he was in the Census in Berrien Co. Mich.in the same township as Jacob Van Horn.I assume he is the same one who moved on to Plainfield Illinois.
Is any of this familiar?I have found that is some cases, it makes it easier if children are named for relatives, other times, it just makes it harder to trace.
