Re: THE VAN SICKLE NAME
Dear Doug and Others,
While this thread is now very old and I am just now tuning in, I want to direct the readers to the very long and sometimes arduous thread on this subject that took place at the ancestry.com message board on this family. That thread includes a more full discussion of the actual Ferdinandus signature to his indenture to provide for his transportation to New Netherland.
Like you, Doug, I am very suspicious of the cognomen Van Salee for our common ancestor Anthony Jansen. He is clearly called that in extant records. Also Anthony van Vez (van Fez), still another reference to what is now Morocco.
We agree that the old renditions of the Van Sickelen ancestry are also questionable.
The original and extant European documents have got to be more closely studied to provide any hope of properly define this family.
