In a VanSlyke chart I received, there are two Gerritts born to MartenII. This chart was done by a couple named either, Snell or Schell. It's hard to read.
They list MartenII as a second son to Jacques.Marten, first marries Gerritise VanVranken, 1701. He names one of his son's Gerritt, born 1704.
In his second marriage to Antje Schell, 1726, he has two more sons. Naming one Gerritt, again. This Gerritt is born 1727. This Gerritt goes onto marry an Eva(Eckjie)?. This Gerritt, also serves in both the Revolutionary war and French and Indian war.
How accurate this chart I have is, but this is what it says and thought I'd pass along the info.
Not that unusual for two boys to be given the same name back then. Since death at an early age was common, and for some reason, Marten wanted to keep this name alive. I'm sure this name is taken from his first wife's name of Gretje Gerritise Van Vranken.
