Hi Steve . . . We have communicated in the past about Van Tuyls.Alex is the son of Walter Van Tuyl, whose parentage is not known, but we know he came from Orange County, New York.He could have been the son of John Van Tuyl (who is provably the father of Daniel and likely the father of John who married Elizabeth Writer).
He could also have been the son of Isaac Van Tuyl who married Catherine Terwilliger Westfall in 1763 or Arthur Van Tuyl about whom little is known. The elder John and Arthur were provably brothers (John administered Arthur's estate in 1794 I think).I strongly suspect Isaac was a brother as well.
The name Bodle in connection with Susanna Owen Van Tuyl is a mistake made by Alma Cramer and repeated as gospel. Ms. Cramer misread a will (Nathanial Owen) that clearly identifies Susanna, wife of John Van Tuyl as Nathanial's daughter. That being said, the Bodles and Van Tuyls are all tied up . . . two Van Tuyl women Catherine and Charity (sisters of John and Arthur?) married Bodles. Alex Bodle and Charity were John's (elder) neighbors. Both Bodle in-laws witnesseddeeds for various Van Tuyls
Walter and my ggggrandfather Jonathan Van Tuyle moved to Luzerne County, PA,around 1822. (it later became Wyoming.)Walter had at least one daughter, Elizabeth, who married Wakeman Taylor.
The Orange County New York Van Tuyls are hard to pin down.I think they were descended from Isaac Van Tuyl and Sarah Lakerman, but I can't prove that now and may never be able to.email me privately if you want all the dates, sources, etc.
