Information that I have to contribute to this forum. Levi VV b 1759 came from Schoharie, Schoharie County, NY to settle in Whitehall, Washington County, NY in 1796. The farm which he owned is located about 2 miles south of East Whitehall's Brick Church, later owned by Timothy O'Connor. Levi VV served several yrs in the Revolutionary War, a portion of time under the immediate command of General Washington. He married Hannah HATCH and had a large family. The Yankee tongues of the area had difficulty in pronouncing the Dutch name, and shortened it to FALKENBURY. On the farm are the remains of two Falkenbury cemeteries. In one of these cemeteries are the stones of a John Falkenbury, who died 4 February 1861, and his wife Ruth (Rich). Joseph was a son of John Falkenbury and Ruth Rich.He marred Harriette Cull (sorry, I made an error in my previous message and said Hull), 1853, and had 10 children. They removed from East Whitehall to Benson, VT in 1866 to a farm there. In April, 1900, Joseph & Harriette died within 3 weeks of each other (April 1 and April 22, respectively). Three of their children were deceased by 1900; 7 survived namely:Porter; Nellie; John Jay; Ruth (Mrs G P Norton), of Benson; Sadie (Mrs F J Norton); and Mabel (Mrs Alanson Douglass Bartholomew) of Whitehall. Falkenbury is a familiar name in Whitehall.
