Re: ISO info on Mary Ann Daniels m Thomas Varey 1874 Manitoba
Hi. Thanks for writing! And the link to the Manitoba Affadavit document. That confirms Mary Ann's parents names (I see her mother as both Elizabeth Isabell Favell and Isabell (Elizabeth) Favell.
We now know her mitochondrial DNA (from her grandson), and it pretty much confirms the Native ancestry: their haplogroup is X2a1b1a, which is closely identified with Algonquin peoples.
I can provide you with the names of her siblings, and everything else I have (it may take me a little time).
My source for information about Thomas Varey comes from two different members of the Varey diaspora who are on ancestry.com.They are very helpful and communicative; let me know if you would like to be put in touch with them.
Perhaps one of them is the source of your booklet offer?
Let me tell you that I am doing this research on behalf of another person. He is 89 years old, my closest Y-DNA match, and he never knew who his father was. Mary Ann's daughter Lydia Ann was his mother. She died when he was just 2 years old.If I have figured this right, he and your grandmother were 1st cousins, so he and you would be 1st cousins twice removed. His granddaughter would be your 3rd cousin - she is the one I communicate with most of the time on this little project. Let me know if you would like to be put in touch with them! Thanks again for writing!
