Re: Massa Mary Veatch 1782-1854 Hardy Co, WV Parents
Regarding Hanson Veatch, I believe his widow was living in Harrison County as of the 1840 census.
U.S. Federal Census, Not Stated, Harrison, Virginia, 1840, Page 259-260
Potential Match Household of Elizabeth Veitch
1 male 20-30 (Hanson?)
1 female 40-50 (Sarah?), 1 female 70-80 (Elizabeth)
1 member of household engaged in agriculture
My own ancestor, also named Hanson Veatch was most likely the son of the elder Hanson's daughter Nancy, who died September 5, 1826 (don't know the source.) Nobody seems to know the story behind that, and nobody seems to know who the father of Nancy's son Hanson is. At any rate, you wrote that your ancestors were in Hardy county at one point and then in Harrison county. Seems to me that my ancestor Hanson (assuming he is the male 20-30 in the census above) remained with his grandmother until she died in 1842, then moved to Ohio where several of his uncles had gone to, eventually moving to Kansas where he died in 1879.Do you know if anybody has identified the will of Elizabeth Veatch in Harrison County (assuming she died there), or if she even wrote one. Also does anybody know where she and her husband were buried?
