The name Velzy is derived from a dutch spelling.
It has been changed many times over the years.
Since the 1700's in fact. The first immigrant settled in New York.
It is said from my family lore that it was Van Veltzen,
but others from the same branch have said Velzer, Velsen,
Velser, Velsor just to name a few.
Our branch changed it to VELZY and it has stayed like that for a few hundred years. Those who spell it V E L Z Y are related to each other somewhere back along the line.
I like the spelling of your name though! Never heard it before and it causes me to pause and wonder! LOL
Good luck in your research.
Happy New Year to you too!
