I happened into this forum, & came across this post of yours. My (married)name coincidentally is Watkins (Janet). My greatgrandmother was Laura Williams Verble.I have an old oval frame/bubble glass picture of her that I received after my granfather died.My great grandfathers name was Jones Verble ( & have learned by other posts his middle name was Ray.My grandfather was Charles Arthur Verble - one of Jones & Laura's children. My grandmother married to Charlie was Nettie. She wrote down information for me years ago, & that was that Laura had been married prior to her marriage to Jones, having 2 children George & Harry Watkins.Harry was the oldest & died in an accident at a suger cane mill. The children from her marriage to Jones were Eva, Flora, Charles, Edd, John, Silas, & Pearl.
I saw another post from a grand daughter of Edd & her fathers' name was Ray.My grandmother & grandfather Nettie & Charles had 2 children Raymond Harris Verble and Mildred Verble Kangas. My father Ray has passed on as well as both of his parents.I have always been told that when Laura died around 1900/1901, following her death Jones remarried and with all of the children, he couldn't support all of them.I am thinking that what has been told to me is that possibly George Watkins and my grandfather Charles were sold to local farms as hands to work for the farms they were sold to, around the time that
my grandfather was about 11 or 12.He was born in 1890.
That is all that I know.I was wondering if anyone knew anything of Jones and Laura prior to that - the years of their birth, where, and to whom.I've also always been told that the name Verble is of Dutch-German origin.
