I have a Harvey Vermillion b.1830 Russell Co., Va.; m. Dorcus ALLEN 2 feb 1851 Edgar Co.,Ill (Village of Vermillion, Ill.)His father was Thomas Vermillion b.1784 Pearson,NC as listed on the 1850 census for Vermillion, Ill;however, there is a Person, NC (No Pearson?) in Caswell Co.,NC...the name may have changed? There is no wife listed for Thomas? And, he has children up to 1831 born in Russell Co.,VA. He came to the area,Indiana and then, Edgar Co.,Ill in the 1830's?I have deeds and transactions for 100's of acres of property he owned in Russell Co., VA.(1814 thru 1828)The Commonwealth of Virginia first granted this property to one Francis Wilkerson in 1789. Thomas Vermillion paid $500.00 for one 100 acre parcel (Tract they call it)...Where do you get $500.00 in 1814? Thomas Vermillion is listed as a Brick Mason on the 1850 census! Prior to that he must have been a Realtor? $120.00 for another eighty acre parcel owned by the Warders of Philadelphia, PA (Three brothers)...etc.(All cash transactions!)
I have a history of Edgar Co.Ill: The Village of Vermillion, Ill. and one of the L's was dropped in 1949, before that it was spelled with two L's! It stems from the SAME Vermilliom Family as the county of Vermillion, Indiana. He probably owned that too!
