Versace in North America
I am trying to find information about Antonio Versace (alternate spelling is Versaci) who lived in Niagra Falls, Canada in about 1923. I believe he would have been born in Rizziconi, Calabria Italy.
He was the uncle of my grandfather Luigi Versace (or Versaci). My grandfather Luigi was born in Rizziconi in 1900 and attempted to migrate to US/Canada in 1923 and was suppose to stay with his uncle Antonio. But he only got as far as Ellis Island. I think for some reason my grandfather was deported. My grandfather ended up migrating to and settling in Fremantle/Perth, Western Australia in 1927 where he died in 1976.
Anyway, Luigi's father was Giuseppe Versace. So I assume Giuseppe and Antonio were brothers.
As for the spelling of the family name, my grandfather tended to spell it Versaci but I think he was wrong because everyone else in the family spelt it Versace.
I would also appreciate any information about Ellis Island records. Next to my grandfather Luigi's entry in the shipping manifest for the boat he arrived on at Ellis Island, there is a stamp which appears to read "S I DEPORTED". Any ideas?
Any responses are welcome. Thanks.
