Harriet Susan Viar b 1844
SUSAN / HARRIET VIAR born Virginia December 1844
Who were parents and where was “Susie” Viar born?
From death record of her son, Pearle Boyd Tyler, his
mother was “Susie Viar.
From Census records, I learn that she was born Dec
1844 in Virginia. From a history of Summers County
WV, I learn that her husband (Walker Tyler) came to
what is now Hinton, WV near the time it was founded
(1871).From Census records, I gather that they were
married before they came and already had a child.I
realize that all children listed in her family in
Census may not be her children, but could be Tyler
cousins raised as her children.Nevertheless, because
family names are often carried down, I list here the
couple, ages, and their children, listed in the
censuses.

1900 Census Summers County WV
Susan, b Dec 1844
Husband Joseph W Tyler b. Apr 1837(Note the
different first name from previous census, reinforcing
the belief that he went only by his middle name).
Tyler Children:
Harry, b. August 1875
Pearle, son, b. June 1879 (evidently an error as to
the birth date… his death record listshim as Pearle
Boyd Tyler)
Luther, b. Oct 1884
Additional help might be found in another Tyler who
apparently lived in or near Hinton. He was a boy
adopted by William C Ridgway (Ridgway came to Hinton
at about the same time as Walker Tyler).Ridgway was
a Confederate veteran who came from Amherst County,
Virginia. The Tyler boy whom he raised as Charlie
Ross Ridgway, was born abt 1872, son of unknown Tyler
and his wife, Emily Jane Berry. The boy had a sister
named Rosa McChesney Tyler. These surnames MAY be
helpful, or maybe not.Their places of birth are not
known, but Augusta County Virginia seems a
possibility.
