Our First African American VICK Y-DNA Surname Project Test Results Are In
The first Y-DNA test results are in for our first African American VICK Y-DNA Surname Project member with the VICK surname. He has received 12 of the 37 markers he ordered. We will have to wait until he has all 37-makers (maybe very soon) to see who he has a good match with.
He is from the large branch of the family tree of man that is called haplogroup E3a.To quote FTDNA, “Haplogroup E3a is an African lineage. It is currently hypothesized that this haplogroup dispersed south from northern Africa within the last 3,000 years with the Bantu agricultural expansion. E3a is also the most common lineage among African Americans. It can be found at its highest frequency in Senegal and is also found at a very low frequency in North Africa and the Middle East.”Hopefully, his match will lead to some family connections for African Americans with the VICK surname as well as for those with a different surname but who were in some way connected to Joseph VICK and his descendants.
We also have one African American member with the SHAW surname who matches the descendants of Joseph VICK of Isle of Wight County, Virginia.
It is going to be fun to see where all of this leads.

Larry
