I am seeking information going back to spain for a gentleman whose name was:
Francisco Diaz de Villegas (from Herrera de Ibio, Santander, Spain). He married Maria Diaz de Rivero.By my calculations, he must have been born circa 1700.
His grandson, Francisco Diaz de Villegas y Fernandez Cavallero also was born in Herrera de Ibio in 1751, moved to Cuba, and married Ana Joaquina Gonzalez de Ara y Rodriguez de Alaraz in 1787.
If any of this rings a bell, please advise.
According to URL http://members.tripod.com/~GaryFelix/index13.htm#Villegashttp://members.tripod.com/~GaryFelix/index13.htm#Villegas -- there was a Juan Diaz de Villegas who was the father of Diego de Villegas, the latter of whom, according to the information at that web page, was a conquistador of Guatemala.
I am assuming that the Diaz de Villegas and/or Villegas families must be related, originating from a common ancestor, although Diaz de Villegas is not as common as the Villegas surname.
