Vinton/Venton family in Killeshandra, Cavan Co, Ireland
The family has lived in the townland of
Crenagh, Killeshandra Parish, County Cavan since at least the 1750's. I
think the name originally came from Devon or Cornwall.
So far I have been able to trace back to my four times great grandfather
Richard Venton and his wife Mary. They had three children, Mary (b 1745),
George (b 1748) and Sidney (b 1752). I am descended from George who married
Bridget ? (1754-1836). This George had four children, one of them Richard
(1798-1876) married a Jane Bennett (b 1807) in 1827 and went to live in the
townland of Killygorman near Newtowngore on the borders of counties Cavan
and Leitrim. Another son Alexander (b 1805) married an Anne Ramsey (b 1806)
in 1836. They had three children, George (b 1837), Robert (b1839) and
Margaret (b 1839). It seems that this branch of the family left for America
some time in the mid 1800's.
