Hi Mary!
I stumbled upon your message today and thought I would post a message myself, as I see nobody has answered you yet.
My maiden name is Voskamp, and though we travelled a lot we are originally dutch and we are living in the Netherlands again. My dad comes from a town called Almelo, as did my grandfather who lived there all his life. Almelo is in the east of the country and there is a huge concentration of Voskamp's in that area. (Actually driving into town one out of three shops bears that name).
The name you are searching for does not ring a bell for me... but it would depend on the ages and the time when they left the Netherlands. The fact that the spouse was German makes me suspect they would originate from the area I mentioned above, as it borders Germany. The name itself would probably have been Gerrit - this is a fairly common dutch name.
I myself am in my thirties, my dad is still alive, he is in his sixties and might know more... as would his older brothers - my grandparents are deceased though. But I suspect they would need more information to be able to say anything..
Well.. I wish you luck in your search.. I would love to hear from you whenever you can... it is quite interesting. I remember as a child, whenever we were somewhere on vacation we would look up the Voskamp's in the phone book.. there never seemed to be that many. Even here in Holland, in the town I live in, there is only me... then again, as I said, there are a great many Voskamp's in the eastern part of the country, in cities like Almelo, Enschede and Hengelo. I hope this might help you in any way...
all the best, Astrid
