Thomas:
My brother Wallace who lived in Pennington Gap, VA died last summer, but I am sure he received a copy of the book that listed all the male Vowells in the country. I will ask my sister-in-law about it the next time I speak to her.
A friend of mine who shared a carpool in the No.Va.area with me, asked me one day about my maiden name. I told her Vowell and she said she had run across that name while researching the genealogy of those killed at the Alamo. Her great uncle was one of the men killed there. (The book she spoke of is not the same as the one my brother received). She was a professional genealogist (probably dead by now though). Anyway, she said she found the book in a Library in Austin, TX and the name of the book was "The Vowell Brothers". I remember my father told me years ago that there were 3 brothers that came from Germany (via England) migrated to US where one stayed East, one migrated west, and our branch migrated South ending up in East TN. We were all born in Briceville, just out of Lake City (Coal Creek). In fact I was there last June. There are still Vowells living in Briceville. You might try 4obituaries.com. You can find lots of info there. There are those associated with some of the obits that look-up surnames and history for you. Hope this helps. Regards, Wanda Vowell Sallee
